And
since in a subtle sense it knows about its permanency or immortality,
it starts expecting this permanency in the transitory, ever
changing material realm, which leads to suffering and pain.
It starts to get frustrated in its awareness of its limitations
rather than its awareness of inherent infinite potential.
It
is for guiding this little limited ‘I’ back to
the universal infinite ‘I’ that the various branches
of Yoga came into being. However when we practice yoga itself
as a competitive, grit and groan practice, then this redirection
of the mind as well as its qualitative improvement doesn’t
happen. For that, it has to be anchored on the core mental
values, as laid out in the original scriptures of yoga. Instead
of challenge, compassion! Instead of frustration, acceptance!
Instead of comparisons, self study! And then each yoga posture,
instead of being a mere body statement, becomes a true, harmonious
expression of ones body, mind and soul. The concept of stretching
the legs and spine should be transcended to the concept of
stretching the mind from restlessness to peace, desires to
content and ignorance to wisdom.
It is our prayer that with the guidance of our Gurus, we can
guide ourselves and our students to experience this stretch
of awareness. Let us all practice aiming at the eventual unfolding
of our inner divinity and allowing the radiance of our true
potential within to shine through.
Namaste
and shanthi!
